Read John 4:27-54
"I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for" John 4:35-38
Did your friends at school ever vote someone ‘to be the ‘least likely’? Least likely to succeed? Least likely to live a normal life? We can write people off early. Jesus doesn’t, and we nor should we write off anyone as ‘least likely to become a Christian’!
Picking up from yesterday, the woman runs off to tell the town then brings them to Jesus (where have we heard that ‘bringing’ idea before?). After their encounter with Jesus they believe! “Now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world”.
Returning to Canan where he’d turned water in to wine, Jesus senses a hardness and lack of faith among the people. However, an offical from the royal household (of King Herod Antipas?) comes down to Canan to see Jesus and begs him to come back and save his sick son. Once more Jesus expresses his authority, this time over disease, “Go your son will live”. Actually it was pretty bold to refuse a staffer of the king and telling him to “Go home”. And yet, the man responds in faith and the son is healed the moment Jesus had spoken those words.
Back at the well Jesus had told his disciples to look up and notice that the fields are ripe for harvest (4:35). They need to “look up” because the harvest field isn’t among the Jews but among Samaritans—not among the religious, but among sinners.
Jesus is bringing new life to the least likely. Do you believe Jesus can save your friends?
